16 January 2010 – Second Car Wash
We had more helpers in this day but got less response from Subang Jaya neighborhood. The fund we raised on this day was about RM 338. Also, we thank the helpers for lending their hands.
Name lists of the helpers:
Alexis
Benjamin
Cindy Tan
Chee Keong
Dino Koong
Eunice Lam Sow Chan
Ng Keah Hong
Ng Zhi Min
Tam Kar Lye
Thanks a lot and we appreciated your help.
After that car wash, Charlie Marlie had a short discussion on how to utilize the amount we raise. The final decision was, we donated RM 1000 to the home, the rest we might use it to buy some gifts and needed stuff for the kids and the home.
Succeeding that, we went to buy some gift for the kids. We purchased stationery sets as we think that would be useful for them. Besides, we also bought water bottles and football for them. (Thank you, Marble who reminded us these)
17 January 2010 – Agathians Shelter
This is our BIG day. What we did previously is for them!!! And now, we are going to visit them. Anxious and excited? Definitely.
How was it going? It was hard to describe by words. But the picture might tell u everything.
When we reached Agathians Shelter….
The kids….
After get to know all of them, we played with them. Actually we plan some games for them but we failed to do what we schedule. This is because it is hard to gather them together…. So at the end we decided just have fun with them and not work on what we plan. Still, we had lots fun, joy there.
Magic Show !!!!
Football!!!
UNO and Board Games
Jumping Jumping….
The joy and Fun!!!

After all of these tired but fun activities, we had taekwondo teaching sessions.
Self defense class… but at the end all mess up together….
Before back we have some photo sessions with all of them….
After the home visiting, the boss, Vincent and Charlie Marlies had a review session. We review what we did in our project, self criticism, assess our weaknesses and others.
In this project, we explored new experiences, learned how to work as a team, realize the synergy of a team, appreciated what we had, and others.
So there was the end of the story…..
--MISSION COMPLETE --

charlie marlie "mission impossible to possible" -- 1 of 2

My eyes rolled up and down, looking at the ceiling and people passing by. My mind flashing out thousand of pictures; still I can’t squeeze a single word to start. Finally I had made up my mind and here the Charlie Marlie Story begins….
.
The “Charlie Marlie” Project
3 January 2010 – TASK 1: Set the Mission

After Introduction Week, Charlie rangers had received a secret mission, contribute back to the society. In order to complete and succeed the mission, the rangers had their first meeting in Midvalley, The Garden Food court.

In this meeting, we discussed our goal on how to contribute back to the society. Vineeta, the project manager came out with numbers of suggestions such as having awareness campaign for wildlife/endangered species, charity visit, fundraise and etc. Of course the rangers also contribute their ideas as well. After brainstorming sessions, we determine the feasibility, suitability, and acceptability of those suggestions. Finally, we opt “Be with HIV Kids” as our project.

Then, we started discussing our “Charlie Marlie” plan’s missions and visions. We decided to have car wash to fundraise for the home and have a charity visit.

After dealing with Pn. Lannna, person in charge of Pusat Perlindungan Pemim for “Be with HIV kids” project, we realized we were unable to offer what they looking for. So we decided to stick to our initial fundraising plan and proceed will go to Agathians Shelter (an orphanage for boys that was founded in 2003 by a team of young adults).

So here is the amended Charlie Marlie plans:

Charlie Marlie Car Wash
Mission: fundraise RM 600
Target: Taman Jaya and Subang Jaya Neighborhoods
Charge: Amount that the customers willing to pay
Date: 10/01/10 & 16/01/10
Agathians Shelter House Visit

Mission:
Brighten and make kids happy, donate them the fund we raised and buy them some groceries.

Location:
Seksyen 18, Petaling Jaya,
46050 Selangor

10 January 2010 – Charlie Marlie 1st Car wash
Before the work, we gather in A&W which nearby Taman Jaya LRT station at 8.00am. As usual, we have some discussions and briefing before we start. Two groups are divided among 7 of us.

Here our day goes:

We rang and knocked the door bells, asked people whether they need a car wash or other help. Uncle Steven Lim is our 1st customer. Due to environmental friendly issues, we washed his green Volvo without car shampoo. We were motivated after the first car wash.

We also try to improve our car wash skills through the experienced we gained. After several car washes, we created Mr. & Ms Car wash among us. We had Mr. Bumbung Atas, Ms Tayar, and Mr. Rim, Mr.Daun picker, Ms Camera and others.

We went to several neighborhoods to hunt down our potential donators. Also, we got rejected often. These rejected trials really made us down, but there was always a miracle when you believe. With this hope, we kept on going.

Finally, we found another opportunity. A lady opens her gate and lets us wash the cars, Pajero and Camry. There was hope for us when she opened the door. Furthermore, when the uncle husband told us he used to be like that during his teenage years. He told us to prepare ourselves for being rejected and face the challenge. This really touched us and made us felt that we were not alone and appreciated what he shared with us. After all, he donated RM 500. This is not what we expected. Although our mission of raising RM 600 was achieved, we still moved on. And now, we changed it to raise as much as possible.

Around 5.00pm, we managed to raise RM 922, so we intended to break thousand. With this spirit, we found another chance. And here, we did some odd jobs, scrubbed floor and also car wash. The premium donation in this house really achieved our new mission and increased our fund to RM 1122.

A big thank you to those who supported us and let us wash their car and donate the money. Because of them, we learned that nothing is impossible, and you will never know if you never try.

Well, after the hard work we got to meet Charlie boss, Vincent. And the dinner was on him.

how about the home visit ????

Go Go Power DELTA

Posted by Poh-E in , , ,

When Delta was asked to write a blog post about our PIWP, we were certainly lost for words as the experience we had was so overwhelming that it is hard to describe in words alone.

Our first PIWP meeting was held to discuss who, what and when of our soon to be project. Our project manager Leong came up with several ideas and there was sure number of suggestions from all of us. The sea horses were too demanding for our time constrained schedules, the forest did not have a time slot for us to do a cleanup and the sea turtles definitely do not seem to be a good choice. Since, aquatic creatures have no fate with us; we decided to bring some joy to Furry Friends Farm! Having decided where to put our Delta power to use, we move on to the next plan which is to fundraise.

Delta’s First Meeting in Megamall

In order to fundraise, we decided to sell food and drinks in various colleges and also to ask for donation of cash and kinds from animal lovers. Our awesome project leader Leong, managed to get the famous ‘ice kacang’ shop from Kepong to sell their ice kacang at cost price. Not just that, Shi Han managed to find an obscure bread shop in Salak South that makes one of the best chicken floss buns at a very reasonable price.

Day 2 and 3 – SEGi College Subang Jaya
The second day of selling foods and drinks was in SEGi College Subang Jaya. We decided to sell bubble tea and buns this time around. The experience we gain from this was fun, fun and more fun. Who knew that making bubble tea could be that much fun! We decided to lend our hands to make bubble tea for fundraising next time. Any takers?

The Day – A visit to Furry Friends Farm
The first thought that came to mind when Delta told the participants we were going to visit the animal farm was ‘we are just going there to clean the place up, bath the cats and dogs, and feed them’. How hard could it be? In our happy little heads, we were excited and all ready to go. Upon reaching there, what we foresighted was nowhere to be seen. We were all greeted by our furry friends and Sabrina the owner who wasted no time to delegate the tasks to the volunteers. The ‘tasks’ were no easy feat as some of the Raleigh members term it ‘mini expedition’. We were required to dig 12 holes to put up a fence and roll heavy concrete rings to create a park for our four legged canine friends to play in.

Our furry friends numbered at 100++

it is heavy, but she pushed it with a glad heart
because

this is what that made us persistent in accomplishing our task

13 holes dug, 100 over dogs fed, a cleaner cats’ house, a lakeside park created, a spick and span dog living area, a tidy kitchen and a shed fuller with dog food. Team Delta made it out alive with the help of all the volunteers that came along and celebrated Siqin’s 21st Birthday!

happy 21st Birthday to Siqin

Team Delta would like to thank all those involved from the planning of their project, the support given during fundraising and the blessed souls who came to volunteer in Furry Friends Farm. This will be one experience we will remember forever. Go Go Power Delta!

Thank You from Team Delta!
