The Introduction Weekend (IW) is a pre-requisite to embark on an expedition. It serves to inform the participants through the introduction of the Raleigh International ethos and life on expedition.

The IW helps a participant decide if he/she is ready for expedition. It is also an avenue for Raleigh KL to get to know the participants. The participant's progress during IW is documented and the documents subsequently used for reference during application for expedition.

Those who have not been on IW and wish to go for an upcoming expedition may request for a specially-arranged interview process, no less than two months before the said expedition.

Fundraising is the second Raleigh International Challenge. After the IW, you will need to fund raise for your expedition cost. It may range from RM2,000 to £3,000 for each expedition. These are very achievable amounts, proved by our long list of successful fund-raisers. Raleigh KL will provide the necessary support and guidance.

Fundraising for an expedition can be very challenging. The fund-raising process serves as a training and development process for Venturers. Venturer learns how to organise press conferences, meet deadlines, work effectively in groups, plan and strategise and take responsibility for his/her actions and negotiate with sponsors which helps develop the individual as a whole.

Fundraising is part of the challenge and the experience prepares Venturer for the expedition.

After sufficient fund is collected and other related processes done, the Venturer will leave for expedition.

On expedition Venturer will work on challenging community, environmental and adventure projects in a team for a duration of 10 weeks.

The expedition is divided into three phases: Adventure, Community and Environment.

Venturers learns to live, work and interact with other Venturers from around the world. In addition, they work closely with locals hence, cultural interaction is high.

Upon coming home, venturers get in touch with their local support group and serve in the Executive Committee or undertake community or conservation projects that benefits the community. With all the enrichment and skills developed on expeditions, these venturers contribute their knowledge back to the society.

Joining activities

Raleigh KL's activities and communities are open to all ages, nationalities, backgrounds, members and non-members alike. Our regular monthly meets are typically on the first Saturday of the month, centering around adventure, community, environment and youth. In between, we also have projects, roadshows, fundraising and venturer-initiated activities.

As we are a non-profit organisation, a small fee may be charged to help cover the basic costs of running the activity. Members are given preferential rates during our activities. Non-members are also most welcomed to participate. Click here to find out more about membership privileges and being a member.

Participants may need to apply to join certain activities which has limited spaces such as the Introduction Weekend. The application form will specify the participant requirements.
