Port Dickson….We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!
By Evangeline Majawat

10th June was a memorable day for the 45-members who went down south to beautiful Port Dickson for Raleigh International KL’s 9th Annual General Meeting…. Read on about the  hysterical laughter & fun-filled 2-days that we had!

Any gathering involving any Raleigh fellas is bound to be fun, filled with crazy daredevil antics & hysterical laughter! The 9th Annual General Meeting held recently on the 10th June 2006 lived up to this Raleigh tradition too, perhaps with more oomph to it too!!

We started out on a sunny Saturday afternoon from K.L in convoy Raleigh-style (READ: convoy that wasn’t really a convoy!) with dear Alan leading the way. It was quite a drive as we tried keeping up with the convoy & the traffic was slow in certain parts. Not to worry though as entertainment came in the form of the walkie-talkie which the 5 drivers had!

Finally, after almost an hour & half of driving we arrived (in one piece!) in Port Dickson. The organising committee, aptly named the O.C (!!) had planned, booked & basically organised the weekend for us. We stayed in chalet named Kin Villa about 5 minutes away from the beach. It was all swell until we found out that there are only 16 beds to house all 30 of us!! As expected, there was a mad scramble to book a bed!!

OC!!
O.C. !! (Organising Comm)

The boys provided entertainment for the girls when they played their version of rounders & football. Give us Raleigh fellas a bat, ball, 3 cones & football…one can only begin to imagine what crazy games we come up with!! Bottom line is we had FUN!

Registration for the 2006/07 membership headed by Siaw Ling & Xin Tong, members of the O.Cs!! Thirty members were expected but in the end 45 people turned up!! What a success it was! There is balanced membership mix of newbies & oldies.

Dinner was delicious despite being (very) late!! It was pizza!! No porridge or ‘pajeri nenas’ but yummy pizza delivered piping hot from the ovens of Pizza Hut by Edmund!! The O.Cs were certainly doing a fantastic job organising the AGM!!

At 8.30 p.m, it was down to serious business of the official AGM. It was the most interesting AGM I’ve been to despite being the longest (it only ended at 12 a.m +)!! The outgoing committee each gave a run down of their responsibilities throughout the year & then the election began ‘hosted‘ by the very charming Shih Chung who had us in fits of laughter with his witty remarks & jokes!! It was competition for most of the candidates except for Adrian who was won uncontested for presidency! In the end, the ‘survivors’ who became the RIKL committee for 2006/07 are:

PR OfficerEvangeline Majawat
Fundraising OfficerNathrah Johar
Expedition OfficerNg Siaw Ling

(Committee 2006/07)

The night ended with a cozy mamak session at nearby Kin Villa and of course, the boys caught up with the World Cup!! (Boys will be boys ey?!)

The next day, we had a fulfilling breakfast of Coco Crunch & Honey Stars!! No porridge in sight, thank goodness!! The O.Cs did try to hide the Coco crunch from us so they could have it to themselves but after vehement protest, they gave in!! Scandalous!

In true Raleigh tradition, we got wet & dirty by the beach!! The O.Cs had organized games, cunningly designed to get us all wet & wild!! Hurrah!! The tug-of-war & sand sculpting competition were fantastic! I only realized how much fun & how engrossed we all were towards the end when strangers stood by to watch & laugh at us!!!

A cool shower & delicious lunch was the cherry on this cake. What a great weekend it was!!

The weekend ended with a flash (literally!) with a group photo. I never realized RIKL had so many camera-loving individuals!!

Thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable weekend! See you next year!

Dear fellow Ra-Ra-Raleighans,

It is the time of the year again to gather together in an AGM. Please download the 05/06 Committee Report (thanks Vig for design & layout) for your kind perusal. If you have any question regarding the report, please email the committee at info@raleighinternational.org.my

Working for the committee is the 4th challenge in RIKL. (Intro Weekend, Fund Raising, Expedition, Serving). There are 11 positions with designated responsibility. Please inform the committee if you wish to gather more information on this. The complete role of each position is available on the Constitution (page 8). We are also proposing to amend one of the constitution concerning membership eligibility to be voted into office. Please read on (page 4) as per attached and below. The purpose of doing so is to provide opportunity for non-ex-venturer to hold office.

The up-coming AGM will be held in Port Dickson (PD) on June 10th weekend. This is the first time we are having our AGM on a seaside. Come and join to get the wholesome RIKL experience.

Let's make it happen!
