New Year Greetings from Raleigh KL!!!

This month we will be going to Bandar Harapan again (http://www.hatiharapan.org/bandarharapan/)! For those who have missed it the last time, I am sure you do not want to miss it again next month! Come join us this 9th of January 2010.

Whether it be a chance for the Dec IW-alumni to meet up, or to get-to-know the volunteer staff of the last IW, this is definitely an event not-to-be-missed!! We have very interesting activities lined up for all of you, keep watching out our spaces for exciting updates!

Not to forget, story sharing session from the newly-returned Borneo expedition venturer 09K - Celine Chin, updates on our latest, most happening last IW of the year, Post Introduction Weekend Projects, new Membership registration, our very own Green Raleigh dry-fast tee purchase and many more!

IW VS Expedition

If you have just become a Raleigh Introweekend alumni, let's check out the similarities from expedition (Photos from recently successfuly completed expedition 09K):

Goodbye 09K!

Your time here is up, the expedition is over - and what an expedition it has been!

*A kindergarten has been completed

*A community hall has been demolished and reconstructed using all the same materials.

*The foundations of a suspension bridge have been dug.

*A village has fresh running water piped into it.

*The sunbears are one step closer to having a safe haven in Sepilok.

*A new reforestation scheme has been set into motion.

*Over 80 people are now qualified open water divers.

*Teams have completed 12 day treks all over Long Pasia and a new Raleigh record has been broken with a group reaching the Indonesian border.

***Games have been played, we've seen skits, filmed music videos and learnt how to entertain ourselves without television.

***We've lived in the rainforest, slept in hammocks and community halls and learnt about other cultures - their food, traditions, dress, language, dances and folklore.

***We've swam in seas, washed in rivers, seen Borneo's animals and been eaten by its insect life.

***We've been welcomed into the homes of the villages we have worked in, educated by rangers and attended opening ceremonies.

***We've worked on construction sites and survived in the jungle and learnt all the skills needed to do both.

***We've had good times, bad times and amazing times. We've made new and friends new memories. Most of all, in the words of 09K's venturers .........We smashed it!

what you've missed...the final Monthly Meet of 2009

Morning started with a warm welcome from a huge flock of pigeons at the entrance of Batu Caves. After a short session of briefing, updates and ice-breakers, the race began.

We have:

Coconut team: Chong Shi Han, wong Mun Mun & Yang Su Lan

Banana team: Ng Zhi Min, Laila & Sindhu

Rambutan team : Marble, Ange Tan & Calist

Papaya team: Lim Si Qin, Ahamd & Christal
Ciku team: Yap Lu Yi, Zed Chan & Haszaliza

Gone through 2 elimination rounds, the final was pretty tied, but there was a winning team, and the title belonged to team Rambutan !!! The lucky Ange Tan got the surprise gift, she got a brand new Raleigh Green Tee !

*a special round: ck, the emo versus Dino. CK won, but with only few seconds ahead of Dino.

The Monthly Meet ended with everyone is a winner, because they all received mini gifts from Raleigh KL, an envelope filled with surprise !! Peppermint candy and chocolate.
