July Monthly Meet: River Wading at Perdik River & Notice: EGM

Posted by Poh-E in , ,

Perdik River is located in between Cheras and Kajang and offers a cooling refreshing waterfall after a quick hike. But in the upcoming Raleigh KL July Monthly Meet, we will be conquering the Perdik River in the most unique way - river wading!  "What is river wading?", you ask. Basically, instead of hiking through land, we will hike through a river. Those of you who think it is easy, think again. Bear in mind that you will most definitely get wet, so we suggest you to be well-prepared!

Notice of EGMNotice is hereby given for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) this July 21st, 2012.The purpose is to further elect the vacant committee position upon AGM last June 2012- Fundraising Officer & Skills Officer. This is in accordance with ROS requirements and compliance. The monthly meet will resume as normal after the short EGM.

Wong & Partners CSR

Posted by Poh-E in ,

Raleigh KL: It is our honor to collaborate with Wong & Partners on a CSR project and we would like to present a summary report to share with you on what we have done on that day!

If you would like to inquire on organizing a CSR project for your firm, please contact info@raleighinternational.org.my.

SUMMARY OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT
23 JUNE 2012:

When a law firm decides to take up a Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) onto their hands, who would expect to find Raleigh KL assisting in this task.
After many months of planning and discussion, a conclusion was made, that a
rubbish pick-up drive will be conducted. The place? A forest reserve deep in between
Cheras and Kajang. There were around 30 people that showed up and a few of those
that came with their families. It was a good sight to see families spending time doing
something meaningful together.

We met up at 9.30 am as scheduled and were welcomed by our friendly MC for the
day, Mr. James Wong. Those that attended the morning session had breakfast served
by the Raleigh folks. Scrambled eggs, sausages, baked beans, lettuce and bread was
served in individual packs. What more can one ask when in the jungle, right? What a
hearty meal indeed. Soon it was time to begin the task for the day. 2 groups were
formed and then the clean-up began.

After an hour and thirty minutes, there were all
in all 26 bags of rubbish in total amounting to a total combined weight of 404.5 kg !
Can you imagine that, the amount of waste collected over that span of time. Only if
those that visited the place could have enough sense to bring out the rubbish with
them, then this problem would not exist in the  first place.

It's time to weigh all these garbage!

There were rejoicing and there
were grunts yet after 5 minutes everyone went and enjoyed a buffet spread style
lunch that was suppose to be served on fake banana leaf. After lunch a few families
with children went back, the rest stayed on for a trek to a really high up waterfall.

Refreshed by the cooling water!

After 30 minutes of huffing and panting, walking in converse and slippers, we
eventually heard the rushing of water beating against the rocks. The view was good
but the soaking and playing in the water was even better. Everyone enjoyed the
waterfall, it gave some the chance to catch their breath, some the chance to cool
down and even more so, some the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of
city life. After half and hour or so, everyone trekked down just a little bit happier.

At the gathering point, the final procedure of the day took place, the souvenir giving
to those that came. Inside a small pack, there were some snacks, some vouchers but
most importantly there was a hand-weaved bookmark made out of dyed pandan
leaves by Orang Asli villagers bought from Gerai OA whose eventual profit will go
back to those that has crafted this magnificent piece of work.

Final good byes were
said, food was being passed out and the final wave to the ambulance that gracefully
stood by us through the day. On the bus, the 26 bags of rubbish were loaded and
brought out to a designated place to be thrown. That was the end of the day for most
of us on picking up garbage however in our hearts hopefully the seed has been
planted on how to reduce our waste, re-use those that can still function and re-cycle
those that don't anymore.

On behalf of Raleigh KL, I would like to thank Wong & Partners for letting us organise
this CSR, it was an eye opening experience for most of us here and with certain hope
that your eyes has been opened to the situation towards the environment too. It was a
pleasure for us to have planned this and we look forward to future projects. Thank
you.
