March Monthly Meeting - Bukit Tabur East

Posted by Poh-E in ,

Looking to let loose the adventure bug in you?
Want to hike an unbelievably awesome hill in KL?

Get your day packs ready and start thinking of the essentials to bring along your hike. Raleigh KL’s March 09 Monthly Meet will be held atop the less explored Bukit Tabur (East).

Bukit Tabur (East)
Located just at the edge of KL city, you will be amazed at the wonderful 360-degree panoramic view of the city dotted with skyscrapers and the concrete jungle, the Klang Gates’ dam, and the Titiwangsa Range that makes up the backbone of the Peninsular of Malaysia.

If you have always been facing walls, buildings, cars and just tonnes of all sorts of pollution, it is time to take a step out of the chaotic life that is the city.
Studies have shown that making time to get in touch with Mother Nature brings humans back to their natural senses, to a more intimate understanding of themselves, of others and of the world around.

So why not take a hike up the hill and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul?
You have everything to gain and not much to lose, except sweat, calories and toxins in the body.

The hike will only be about half a day and you will get to eat a type of special fruit at the peak!

As usual, get updated with the happenings of Raleigh KL while you take in all the fabulous essence of nature.

Details of the hike are as below:

Venue: Bukit Tabur East

Date: 21 March 2009 (Saturday)

Time: 7.00 am – 12.00 pm

Meeting point: Wangsa Maju LRT station (please be there at 7.00 am SHARP!)

Raincoat, 1.5 L water, small towel
Optional: gloves, sunblock, camera

Raleigh KL members: RM 3
Non-members: RM 5

Drivers are needed from Wangsa Maju LRT station to Bukit Tabur.

To register, please send the following details to bluesoon333@hotmail.com:
1. Name
2. Tel./Mobile no.
3. Email
4. State if you are driving or taking the LRT

Please confirm your attendance latest by 5 pm, 19 MARCH (Thursday) to ease arrangement.

See YOU there!!! =]

Hock Soon (bluesoon333@hotmail.com)

Chillin in Fraser’s Hill

Posted by Poh-E in

Just over 2 weeks ago, a crazy bunch of mostly Raleigh fellers decided to drive 100 KM away from Kuala Lumpur just to have a meeting. Who in their right mind would drive for 2 hours just to hang out and chit chat in a totally remote area, removed from the comforts of their own home?

Ahhhh…..cool and refreshing air!

Oh wait..that’s the wrong picture.

This is more like it.

What did we do up there? That’s a good question. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I meant, who’s gonna actually read ALL the words.(Except for me, of course I’ll have to read what I write)

Where we stayed. Lovely, albeit very old colonial bungalow called the Glen Bungalow.

Took a group photo where some fellers thought they could fly.

Note how the middle person added a “Y” to “Raleigh” making it “Raleigh-y”. Not sure what the president of “Raleigh” would think of with the ’corruption’ of the sacred word “Raleigh”. (Thanks to you ,Dennis the Menace)

Observed an accident involving 2 “motorcycles” and a bunch of minors.
Miraculously, the person in red survived with nothing more than a deeper appreciation of life.

Had a feller that thought waterfalls occur on dry land and decided not to bring any clothes to change into.

Had our mascot do a martial art stunt in the waterfall having survived the “accident” earlier on.

Had a feller enjoying himself with the ladies. (Note, we do not condone any promiscuous behavior of any kind)

Observed a loving ‘amah’ teaching a younger ‘amah’ how to wear a sarong.

Had a sumptuous steamboat dinner where people can actually play with their food. (Sorry Mum!)

Subjected willing participants to a natural blood donation exercise and a walk in the park. (This was before they knew about it)

Punished three fellers by having them participate in an “Mr.Universe” competition, wearing surprisingly un-manly clothes.
Having done all that, naturally we had to take a group photo.

Think we had fun? We sure did!

Fraser Hill Updates

Alrighty People.

Chinese New Year is over. Valentine's is coming. For all you couples out there. Have a sweet one. Remember, it's not all about flowers, chocolates and pricey restaurants. It's all about faith and love with your other half.

After Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year, Thaipusam and every other thing else. Enough Food already, I must say. It's time for YOU to get your butt up, and head to somewhere else to get outta the city buzz for a weekend.

This month, as informed earlier, Raleigh will be having their KL February Monthly Meeting in Frasers Hill. Located not soo far north, the journey takes approximately 2hours from KL and is only accessible by road. Take the North-South Highway towards north, take the Rawang exit from the highway and drive further north to Kuala Kubu Bahru (KKB) and up to Fraser's Hill. KKB as we call this quaint town has a clock tower just off the children's playground in commemoration of King Edward VII 's coronation. A good place for a short stopover.
From KKB take the easterly road past the police station all the way along the winding roads to the Gap Resthouse.

There is a one way up and one way down road system now at Fraser's Hill. So here's the tricky part, the GAP will be open at odd hours (7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm) to go up the hill. Even hours are for vehicles to come down. So planning have to be made, so that we don't spend too much time waiting.

For more info about it, please log onto:
http://www.journeymalaysia.com/MH_fraser.htm

Now. When we get up there, this is the brief schedule:

Day 1
8.00 Meeting point at KL Sentral
9.00 Departure
12.00 Arrival. Meet at Mini 'Big Ben' of Frasers Hill
3.00 Waterfall
7.00 Dinner

10.00 Morning Walk (Departure )
12.00 Arrival. Meet at Mini 'Big Ben' of Frasers Hill
1.00 Lunch
4.30 Hiking
8.00 Steamboat
9.30 Monthly Meeting
10.30 Interactive Games,Rest & Relax

Day 3
6.00 Morning Walk
7.30 Breakfast
Free & Easy
12.00 Departure

Of Course. All are to be confirmed and are flexible. Main focus, would be for us to connect you back with mother nature. She is the almighty!

Now. All you have to do, would be to confirm with us if you're going. And well, decide of course. Bring along your friends, or those who will enjoy the nature. Please send us your details and your mode of transport most importantly. Do let us know so we can do necessary arrangements.

For those who already registered, we'll reconfirm with you once again before you leave.

Have a nice Veekend ahead Raleigh-ians!

Regards.
