Brief: | Team Charlie from the previous IW had taken the challenge to raise fund for Angel's Children Home by collecting old newspaper for recycling. Charity and promoting enviromental awareness is their aim. Updated 25 Nov 06 hing by the 11th. With the help of many people (consist of RIKL members, non-RIKL members, friends, and neighbours, family members), the project was completed successfully. We managed to paint the mural on the side wall, paint the main wall with words of “Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels Kuala Lumpur; 03-79832126”, provide a banner as well as a new signage for the Home. Everything mentioned in the proposal has been completed accordingly. Our most important achievement is definitely completing the project which will ultimately benefit Angels Children’s Home in various ways.Throughout the whole process, working as a team, we have picked up many important lessons. We have learnt how to communicate with the relevant authorities to ask for specific help (sponsorship) or possible purchase. In addition to this, we realised that help from others will only be offered if we, perso nally go looking for it. As we have now truly understand the phrase, “If you never try, you’ll never know”. Through this, we have gotten sponsorship for food, paint (partially) as well as other various items. Besides, through this project, we have crossed paths with many individuals that offered help in many ways, suiting their expertise. At such we learnt how to listen to others for appropriate advice, and to apply them accordingly. As a team in a whole, we have managed to come out with plans (though with disagreements at times) to make the best decisions for the project. Through this also, we learnt to compromise with one another. With detailed planning, and cautious back-up plans, we managed to tackle the “worst-case scenarios” i.e. saving the paint work from being wet by the rain. Though many times, our project was being delayed by the rain, we did not give up, and still went on to complete the project, even though at the expense of a later completion date. Other than that, through the recycling project, we have also learnt to be more environmental-conscious. In addition, the many visits to the orphanage (prior to the actual project day) have given us the opportunity to spend time with the underprivileged children, to indirectly realise how lucky we actually are. It is really important for us to realise that, so that in future, we can actively give back to the society in many ways. Updated 31 Oct 06 Attention to ALL! Team Charlie September IW 2006, has finished the first phase of our PIW project, and now as planned we are proceeding with the final phase; that is painting the main wall/ mural for Angels Children’s Home. Details on helping out on 4th of November 2006 are as below:
Important details: Contacts: Kar Lye - 012-201 8829 C.K. - 012-385 2051 (For further directions to the Home, or any transportation matters, please contact me for more details.) The Sri Petaling Star LRT station is nearby OUG, so if there are any volunteers travelling by train, we can arrange transportation to the Home. So, what more better way to start the month of dull, “holiday-less” November, other than this? Sign up now! Team Charlie Updated 27 October 06 What is happening? Mural Paiting at Angel's Why? • To paint the side wall and main wall of Angels Children’s Home; • To provide a banner for better exposure; • Replace the current signage with a new one that includes Chinese characters as well. The reason for all the three objectives: Residence around that area (OUG) will be aware of the home so they can further contribute in appropriate ways; As the area is mainly occupied by Chinese residence, a Chinese character signage is essential for possible donations. Who? Managing team: Team Charlie (IW SEPT 2006) How volunteers can help? 1) Help out on the actual recycling day-28th of October 2006 -We are targeting the residential area around OUG (nearby to Angels Children’s Home) as that will be our temporary storage spot for the day. -Own transport is recommended as we will be travelling by car, to do a door-to-door collection 2) Launch a mini recycling project targeted at family, relatives, friends, colleagues, etc - By collecting any recycling items and drop it to Angels Children’s Home on 28th October 2006 (Recycled items: Old newspaper, aluminium can, plastic, glass, any kind of papers, office paper, black and white paper, computer form, scrap metal, old magazine, cardboard boxes, etc) 3) Help out on the main and side wall painting. - 4th of November 2006 (Possibly 5th of Nov as well if paint-job cannot be completed in one day) Essential details: Contact person: Kar Lye - 012-2018829 C.K - 012-3852051 E-mail: info@raleighinternational.org.my Angels Children’s Home Address: 126, Jalan Hujan Gerimis 2, OUG, Off Old Klang Road Tel: 03-79832126) “I am only one; but still I am one.
