We need to face it. What are we really doing? If you are not a member yet, have not participated in any activities yet, or have participated in a couple or so activities but not a member yet, what is it that has prompted you to drop by? If you are a Raleigh member, amidst all the activities and expeditions, have you gone off-centre from the prime focus of the objectives of being a Raleigh-ian? It may be easy to lose grip of what the real cause of Raleigh is all about in the midst of various distractions and happenings. Organising and participating in various events may in themselves be so time-consuming that we get too focused on the events and lose touch with the very foundation of contributing for a better society and a greener environment. It is akin to being drowned in the captivating aroma of food that we may sometimes forget the purpose of survival it serves us. Every time that we get involved in something ‘Raleigh’, it is only apt to wear a purpose tag in our minds, or get moving with questions only we know the answers to. Why are we interested in the event? Why do we want to go for an expedition? Why do we want to spend all the time and energy? What do we want to gain from the experience? How can we contribute to the betterment of the community, individuals and the environment? What positive vibes do we want to send out? The answers may be as simple as to create awareness and to support, but what drives you will be what gives you most pleasure. Of course, getting serious with conducting a reality check does not mean at all that any fun is lost along the way. A Raleigh way of life is about realising your potential and learning what you can best offer to the world while taking yourself not too seriously.
