SOS (Save Our Seahorses)! - Save Our Fellow Creatures!

Calling all Raleigh-ians and non-Raleigh-ians!!!

There will be an SOS (Save Our Seahorses) trip to Sungai Pulai from 25-29 April 2009 (Sat-Wed).

In supporting the cause of SOS to conserve Sungai Pulai (Pulai River Estuary) and its seagrass beds, the home to our fellow cute creatures, the Spotted Seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), this 5-day trip will be our way of showing support and to aid in the research works of the SOS non-profit group.

Hippocampus kuda
The Spotted Seahorse is the only species found in estuaries, especially in the Pulai River Estuary, which has large tracts of seagrass beds.
The sheltered and strategic location of the Pulai River Estuary is heaven for the seahorse and seagrass beds.
Within a decade, this less than a palm-size fish has been reduced by over 80 %. Further habitat destruction will likely drive them into extinction.

What you will do?
- Help gather scientific data relevant for the conservation of seahorses and the seagrass ecosystem (tagging, seagrass bed survey, etc.).
- Mingle and do your bit for the nearby orang asli settlement.
- Experience the wonders of Pulai River Estuary.

What you will get?
- A homestay experience at the orang asli village.
- A break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
- Boundless gratitude from the little creatures and Mother Nature.

How much?
The 5-day trip will cost in the range of RM 150 - 200 per person (inclusive of food, accomodation and transportation for that duration).

Places are still available.
