Description:

Dear Raleighians,

Spend your 2 days time with MUD!!!

What is Mud Hut Building?

- Natural building technologies in the world which are adaptable to climates and bioregions.

- Rely on a few basic materials: earth, wood, and straw (where straw can be loosely defined to include any dried non-woody plant material such as palm fronds, reeds, etc.).

- Mud buildings can last for hundreds of years and tends to maintain a cool internal microclimate because the walls can “breathe and transmit moisture”.

What are the Objectives?

- To inspire the public the importance of living in sustainable harmony with the environment by organizing this green project

- To provide a natural living place for future volunteers, ecotourist and organic farming apprentice.

- To introduce the youth on the lifestyle of expedition, so to ignite interest on young people so that they will embark on an expedition.

- To promote communication skills, teamwork and harness the environmental-friendly habit among all the participants.

Mud Hut Building Process:

Cut the various lengths of bamboo to erect a shelter (the shelter will protect the mud bricks during the building process before the atap roof is in place) --> separate the coconut husk (for mixing process) --> collect mud --> organize the mud brick mixing area--> build the brick mold --> fill the sand bags --> make the mud bricks --> build the cement foundation frames --> install the tarpaulin to shade the construction area --> pour foundation --> build walls --> install windows and doors --> plaster the walls

So far we had erected a bamboo shelter and 50 mud bricks are made.

What is Our Target:

The atap roof will be in the building process soon and we are on the way to 500 mud bricks to build a mud hut.
