Dear all,
Stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, swim more rivers, climb more mountains, kiss more babies, count more stars. Laugh more and cry less. Go barefoot oftener. Eat more ice cream. Ride more merry-go-rounds. Watch more sunsets. Life must be lived as we go along. The Station will come soon enough. - THESTATION By Robert J. Hastings

Updates: Raleigh KL* November monthly meeting
Posted by Poh-E in monthly meet
On Saturday, we had our usual monthly meeting on 7.30am……
Furthermore, we have learnt bahasa Semai from Encik Raman too, example: “Ma i ga” (how are you?), “Ga borrr” (I am fine) and etc......
So, the gorgeous Saturday ended and how was our Sunday plan?
On Sunday, we had made 20 mud bricks.
Finally, what Raleigh wants to say is……
Reporting live from KK. Thank you Shu Woan!

Upon our arrival at Likas stadium, there were no HCVs in sight. But through a glass door, we saw CK working very hard with the logs team. He has been up since half past five for two days in a row, and he looks like he needs some rest.
Seeing that the staff was busy, this reporter immediately sought reinforcement from KL. The lucky HCV – Evinn Soo. She still had a phone with her and although she was busy packing and repacking, she spared some of her time with this reporter.
Out of 14 HCVs, only 3 were available. Evinn, Fiza and Sherman. Choon Wei was briefly available, and I had the impression that he was really tired.
Apparently, before the KL HCVs left KL, they were ‘instructed’ to learn how to sing ‘Sayang Kinabalu’, and they did! Well done guys!
So, who goes where?
Evinn and Shen Quang will be spending 12 days getting toned in Long Pasia, and the next 5 days showing it off in Mamutik. Its trek and dive for them.
For Yen Wen, it’s the other way round. She’ll be getting her diving license first and then battling it out with the leeches later on.
Choon Wei has the honour of repairing the water gravity feed in the Lost World of Sabah – Maliau Basin. Fiza from Ranau will be joining him there.
Aaron is heading to Imbak Canyon alongside with Mun Mun.
Shi Han is going all the way to Pitas to build a kindergarten.
Finally, Sherman from Sabah will also be in Pitas, but working on a water project.
Yes, this reporter only managed to squeeze this much of information from the three of them.
On what will she be missing the most, Evinn says, her laptop! And I thought people usually say rice! She will also be missing her favourite pork dishes. She’s also telling time the Raleigh way – ‘fifteen past’. She just got back from jungle camp today, and was allocated to trek and dive. A bit overwhelming, not really looking forward to it. But after our little chit chat and some tips from Suzanne, she seems ready.
ll 3 of them looked like they were ready to continue packing at this point, with handshakes and best wishes, off they went.
This is Shu Woan, reporting from Likas stadium, Kota Kinabalu for Raleigh Kuala Lumpur. Stay tuned for more at changeover.

Date: 5/11/2010 (Hari Deepavali), Friday, 5.00PM – 7/11/2010, Sunday, 3.00PM
Location: 55th mile Gombak (heading towards the Orang Asli Museum).
Description:
Dear Raleighians,
Spend your 2 days time with MUD!!!
What is Mud Hut Building?
- Natural building technologies in the world which are adaptable to climates and bioregions.
- Rely on a few basic materials: earth, wood, and straw (where straw can be loosely defined to include any dried non-woody plant material such as palm fronds, reeds, etc.).
- Mud buildings can last for hundreds of years and tends to maintain a cool internal microclimate because the walls can “breathe and transmit moisture”.
What are the Objectives?
- To inspire the public the importance of living in sustainable harmony with the environment by organizing this green project
- To provide a natural living place for future volunteers, ecotourist and organic farming apprentice.
- To introduce the youth on the lifestyle of expedition, so to ignite interest on young people so that they will embark on an expedition.
- To promote communication skills, teamwork and harness the environmental-friendly habit among all the participants.
Mud Hut Building Process:
Cut the various lengths of bamboo to erect a shelter (the shelter will protect the mud bricks during the building process before the atap roof is in place) --> separate the coconut husk (for mixing process) --> collect mud --> organize the mud brick mixing area--> build the brick mold --> fill the sand bags --> make the mud bricks --> build the cement foundation frames --> install the tarpaulin to shade the construction area --> pour foundation --> build walls --> install windows and doors --> plaster the walls
So far we had erected a bamboo shelter and 50 mud bricks are made.
What is Our Target:
The atap roof will be in the building process soon and we are on the way to 500 mud bricks to build a mud hut.

My Raleigh Experience
Posted by Poh-E in expedition stories
My Raleigh Experience
Everyone in this room has had an impact on the experience I have had over the past 3 months so I have a few things to say about what this experience has meant to me.
I have laughed until my tummy hurts and cried a few tears too.
I have leapt around excited like a five year old and been as grumpy as an old man.
I have met people who will be in my life forever and people I am glad to have known if only for a short time.
I have stared up at the sky and felt there was nowhere in the world I’d rather be.
I have stared up at the sky and wished to god I was somewhere else!!!
I have seen proof time and time again of the enormous impact one human being can have on another.
I have witnessed honesty and bravery that has taken my breath away.
I have learnt some painful lessons that will help me to achieve more in the future.
I have watched friendships form and grow and been constantly impressed by the care and support that exists between the people in this room.
I have seen grit and determination etched on to many different faces.
I have been bowled over by the time, energy and effort that has been put into making someone smile.
I have seen people push through emotional and physical barriers to achieve things they would never have thought possible.
I have seen futures open up and endless possibilities shine through where before there was uncertainty.
I have made a difference to people and people have made a difference to me.
I have been part of something far huger than me, working with 48 other people from very different lives to achieve something that I believe to be amazing.
Every second has had an impact on me.
I have loved this time.
